The Third Team on the field

Match officials are essential for the safe and controlled playing of any sport, and Lacrosse is no different; and like other sports we are always looking for people to join our referees and Umpires.

Traditionally our officials have been ex-players wanting to stay actively involved in Lacrosse, or often parents seeking to support their children in participating in the sport, facilitating the playing of games, and in learning the rules of play.

Increasingly young people are adopting the role of match official for a variety of reasons including keeping fit, earning extra cash, supporting our game, but also as a pathway into international  standard competition that may see our officials travel the World as part of the International Lacrosse network.

NWLA has been, and remains, in the forefront of the recruitment and development of Lacrosse officials, subsidising the training and mentoring of Referees and Umpires,  and introducing Youth Officials courses, encouraging young people to recognise the opportunities available to them as match officials.
